Maybe it’s time we work on sharpening communication skills. Pride and hubris are causing friends and family alike to voluntarily do something that is risking their lives and their health. You cannot reason with people like this. The kool-aide is washing down the blue pill and they don’t want to think about it. All we can do is ask them questions that they need to answer for themselves. Any teacher worth their weight knows that the best way to instill learning is to spark willingness. They will only see the light if you lead them to it. And the first question is always IS IT POSSIBLE THAT PEOPLE WOULD LIE TO YOU?
I'm an American citizen now living in Ireland and I asked my neighbor who, God bless him, always wants to do the "right" thing. I asked him a year ago - "Has your government ever lied to you?" He said No. I listed about a dozen ways the U.S. government lied to us and the world. I don't know of a government that hasn't lied to its people.
