I have more to say about PERFECTION DISAPPOINTMENT SYNDROME and FALLEN IDOL SYNDROME
And a couple of other weird distortions
What makes people a) discover their hero isn’t perfect and b) then turn around and call him a CIA plant and controlled opposition and a gatekeeper and a monster…
When the hero simply failed to agree with their theory about something?
Arrested development. That’s what.
Which, for example, could be brought on by living too long in mommy’s basement.
I recall, some 20 years ago, molecular biologist Peter Duesberg (*) was attacked on that basis. Duesberg made a huge breakthrough in 1987, when he published a paper pointing out why HIV wasn’t the cause of AIDS.
Then, some years later, when it appeared HIV had never been isolated in the first place and didn’t exist (**), Duesberg pushed back and said of course it EXISTS. It just doesn’t cause AIDS.
Certain people in the anti-HIV camp then excoriated Duesberg as if he were a rank fraud and a liar and a criminal and one of the worst persons in the world.
FUCK DUESBERG! WE HATE HIM!
Happens all the time. Fallen Idol Syndrome.
People eating their own.
These arrested children could have attacked hundreds of other scientists who deserved to be excoriated—but saved their heaviest venom for their comrade in arms, Duesberg.
Unconscionable.
