Starting tomorrow something big—Rappoport podcasts!
Podcast: "The Medical War As I Experienced It As A Reporter; The Book I Never Wrote On HIV"
(Update: March 29, 2022: Episode 1 of Rappoport Podcasts—“The Medical War As I Experienced It As A Reporter; The Book I Never Wrote On HIV”—is now posted. To listen, click here.)
Finally, I’m jumping into the pool. You’ll see my first podcast pop up here tomorrow.
Why? Because I have many stories to tell. Inside stories of my experiences over the last 40 years as a reporter. The people I met, got to know, the conversations, the flesh and blood, behind the data.
The podcasts will range over VERY wide territory.
For example, I could write a whole book about the writing of my first book, AIDS INC. Sources, arguments, false trails, the most unlikely people who popped up and gave me clues and insights and moments of breakthroughs. Ditto for my book, The Secret Behind Secret Societies.
I want to show you THE PEOPLE, give you the flavor of who they were, the good, the bad, the ugly. Because this what LIFE is about. And it’s easy to forget that, when you’re adding up the score of what the data show.
People risked everything to tell the truth. Others risked everything to lie.
I could write all this down, but it works much better as voice, as stories, as narrative, because I was in the middle of so many narratives with people who made such a difference. In the flesh.
I’ve got 40 years of experience under my belt, as a reporter, as a writer about art, imagination, the creative life—so the inside stories don’t end.
These podcasts will also fill in gaps for me, because there have been so many times over the years when I decided to shove my other interests aside, because pressing crises in the world needed deep investigation. And I wanted to do those investigations, to be sure. At the same time, key people came and went…and now I get the chance to tell you about them. Each one, remarkable in his/her own way.
On top of all this, I want to show you that no system and no structure gives you moments of quantum-leap insights—something much more fabulous is happening. You’re jumping from A to R all of sudden without going through all the other letters. It happens in the middle of a phone call, walking down the street, talking to someone in restaurant…a narrow road of pure data that you can see ahead of you explodes out into an entire landscape…which perhaps you’d never have seen if you weren’t talking to that person at that moment…
Life, stories, people, electric energy, finding what was lost…
Stay tuned. Come on board.
