(This is Part-1 in a series; for Part-2, click here.)

This is serious shit.

Belarus, under dictator Alexander Lukashenko, is a long-time ally of Russia. If his troops get the green light to invade, all bets are off.

The consequences are expressed in these familiar phrases. Think about their real world meanings:

“strong response from NATO”;

“broader regional conflict”;

“drawing in Poland and the Baltic states”;

“mass exodus of citizens from Kiev”;

“refugee crisis”;

“heavy casualties and loss of life”;

“major infrastructure damage”;

“a Ukrainian government in exile operating remotely”;

“disruption in energy supply chains”;

“spike in oil and gas prices”;

“Russian escalation”;

“direct confrontation between Russia and NATO”;

“increased nuclear threat.”

Can cooler heads prevail?

Trump has promised he’ll end the war as the next President before he’s even inaugurated. Uh-huh. Possibly on the golf course.

Kamala has promised to lead America into a brighter future and other clichés.

America’s Founders saw Europe as a field of eternal conflict 250 years ago. Those countries never seem to be able to leave each other alone.

The US Empire decided to become Europe’s eternal protector. That now involves nuclear weapons.

From what I can see:
