Belarus, under dictator Alexander Lukashenko, is a long-time ally of Russia. If his troops get the green light to invade, all bets are off.

“strong response from NATO”;
“broader regional conflict”;
“drawing in Poland and the Baltic states”;
“mass exodus of citizens from Kiev”;
“refugee crisis”;
“heavy casualties and loss of life”;
“major infrastructure damage”;
“a Ukrainian government in exile operating remotely”;
“disruption in energy supply chains”;
“spike in oil and gas prices”;
“Russian escalation”;
“direct confrontation between Russia and NATO”;
“increased nuclear threat.”
